Where to Stay for Tokushima Awa Odori: Tokushima, Naruto or Takamatsu After the Last Dance?

The 30-second stay decision
Stay by Tokushima Station for a first Awa Odori, a one-night trip, the full 8:20–10:00 p.m. second session, public transport or large luggage. The main central venues are roughly a 5–15 minute festival walk from JR Tokushima Station, so the end of the night does not depend on one last train. Naruto is better as a separate resort night for the art museum, whirlpools, sea views and onsen. Takamatsu works only when the next morning is clearly aimed at the Setouchi islands or Okayama and the festival-night limited express is protected.
First visit, one night, full late session, no car or heavy bags: Tokushima Station. Best hotel experience, family facilities and onsen: move to Naruto for the second night. Early ferry or onward travel to Okayama: move to Takamatsu the following day. Want the full 10:00 p.m. finale: do not use Naruto as the same-night base; the 10:47 p.m. Takamatsu train also requires a fast exit.
What changes between the three bases
Tokushima Station compresses venues, dinner, luggage storage and bed into a walkable radius. Naruto offers the stronger destination stay but usually requires a bus, shuttle, taxi or car. Takamatsu gives the best onward network through JR Takamatsu Station and Takamatsu Port, at the cost of a 70-plus-minute late journey and a high penalty for missing the limited service.
Choose by traveller and onward route
For an Osaka or Kobe highway-bus arrival, Tokushima Station lets travellers leave bags before entering the controlled festival streets. For a Naruto day, sleep in Tokushima after the dance and move yourself and the luggage the next morning. For a Setouchi island day, the conservative sequence is also Tokushima first and Takamatsu the following day; the same-night move is for travellers willing to leave early.
Three named hotel recommendations
JR Hotel Clement Tokushima
The easiest first-stay choice for the full second session, luggage and a no-car itinerary. It is directly connected to JR Tokushima Station.
Stay highlights
Rooms and sleep
The Superior Twin is roughly 27–28 m² with two 120 × 200 cm beds. A separate shower booth, corner layout or upper-floor view belongs only to named Deluxe Corner or Premier categories.
Location and transport
The hotel is directly connected to JR Tokushima Station at 1-61 Terashimahoncho Nishi. Most central venues are a 5–15 minute walk; closures may lengthen the route, but no cross-city connection is needed.
Hotel experience
Restaurants, a sky bar, 24-hour coin laundry, microwave, children's amenities and luggage services cover the practical needs. Breakfast runs from 6:30 to 10:00 a.m., and noon checkout is unusually useful after the late session.
Price reference
The official basic-rate table listed the Superior Twin from ¥22,990 before festival-date changes, meals and taxes. Treat this as a reference rather than an Awa Odori rate.
Booking notes
Festival demand moves quickly. Free cancellation exists only when the rate states a deadline, and station connection does not mean every venue or festival view is at the hotel door.
AoAwo Naruto Resort
The experience-led second-night choice for couples and families who want the museum, whirlpools, sea views, onsen and resort facilities. It is not the same-night base after Tokushima's 10:00 p.m. finish.
Stay highlights
Rooms and sleep
The Deluxe Twin Premium is 37 m² with an ocean-view balcony. Type A and B use different bed widths, while connecting Type C suits families. The exact bath and connecting layout are category-specific.
Location and transport
The resort is at 16-45 Oge, Tosadomariura, Narutocho. It is not usefully walkable from Naruto Station with luggage and requires the current bus, hotel transport, taxi or a car.
Hotel experience
Several restaurants, sea-view onsen, seasonal pools, beach access, children's activities and baby equipment create the resort value. Meal plans include only the named restaurant and menu, and some dinners require advance booking.
Price reference
A July 2026 public example for two adults showed an all-in starting total around US$260. The entry price did not guarantee the 37 m² Premium room, dinner, breakfast or flexible cancellation.
Booking notes
Do not use this as the bed after the full Tokushima second session. Facilities and meals can have seasonal, age, reservation and extra-fee conditions; free cancellation is plan-specific.
JR Hotel Clement Takamatsu
The onward-travel choice beside JR Takamatsu Station, Takamatsu Port and the airport bus. It is useful before Shodoshima, Naoshima or Okayama, not as the default Awa Odori base.
Stay highlights
Rooms and sleep
The 23.8 m² Compact Twin has two 100 × 200 cm beds; the 31.9 m² Standard Twin has two 120 × 200 cm beds and works better with full-size luggage. Sea views and separate shower booths belong to specified categories.
Location and transport
The hotel is at 1-1 Hamanocho, about one minute from JR Takamatsu Station and close to the port and airport bus. The risk lies in leaving Tokushima: limited special trains create a hard penalty for a missed connection.
Hotel experience
Restaurants, a bar, luggage storage and coin laundry support the overnight. Check-in is 2:00 p.m. and checkout noon, so the next ferry or train can start without another city transfer.
Price reference
The official basic-rate table listed the Compact Twin from ¥27,830 and Standard Twin from ¥37,510 before event-date changes, meals and taxes.
Booking notes
The 10:47 p.m. special train does not mean a relaxed exit after the 10:00 p.m. finish. Crowds, walking and luggage must fit inside the margin; free cancellation and advance offers are plan-specific.
One-night and two-night patterns
One night: Tokushima Station, especially for the full second session. Two nights with Naruto: Tokushima first, resort second. Two nights with the Setouchi islands: Tokushima first and Takamatsu the following day; go directly to Takamatsu only when leaving the festival early is acceptable.
Connect the hotel decision to the itinerary
Use the Tokushima Awa Odori 2026 stage-and-street guide to choose the session and exit route before booking. The wider sequence can be built with the four-day Shikoku no-car itinerary.
Festival-night train times were checked against JR Shikoku's official 2026 summer notice. Hotel details were checked against official property pages. Price references reflect pages checked on July 24, 2026 and are not fixed Awa Odori rates.
